Edmond and Brian J. Theriault have been making traditional snowshoes in the Upper St. John River Valley area of northernmost Maine for over thirty years. Brian and his father want to preserve this dying art form, developed originally in this area between local First Nations people and French settlers, so they decided to produce this instructional video. The video presents a step by step demonstration of how to make beautiful and functional ash and rawhide snowshoes in the Theriault family tradition.
